The weather outside may be frightful, but that doesn’t mean that you should neglect vehicle maintenance! Rain, sleet, ice, and snow can damage your vehicle in a variety of ways, and your windows and window tint can really take a beating. Changing temperatures, overactive windshield wipers and liquid can all have an adverse effect on your tinted vehicle windows. Learn the ins and outs of keeping your car windows looking good even in cold weather.
While your new window tint doesn’t require a great deal of maintenance, following a few simple tips and tricks can help extend the life of your window film significantly. Some shops will tell you that winter isn’t the ideal time to have a tint added to your vehicle’s windows, but as long as your shop maintains a consistent temperature during the process, everything works great!
If you’re having your windows tinted in the winter, there are some maintenance tips that you should keep in mind. Tints take longer to cure in the winter due to temperature and humidity, meaning they may not be fully dry for up to three weeks. This may seem like a long time to wait, but it means that your window films will last much longer when they’re allowed the proper time to cure. Refrain from rolling your windows down for at least four to seven days and only use an ammonia-free cleanser on windows that have been tinted. Avoid using abrasive pads or anything other than soft towels as the tint can be easily scratched.
Do you need new wiper blades for your vehicle? Older blades could cause snagging and damage on your window tinting, either on your front or rear windshield. If you’re like most people, wiper blades only get replaced when they’re falling apart or are so run-down that it’s nearly impossible to see through your windshield in the rain. However, there are additional indicators to be aware of that let you know when your wiper blades need to be replaced. Try turning your wiper blades on at night. If water is smearing on your windows, but it isn’t being completely cleared, then it’s a sure bet that it’s time for a switch! Replacing your wiper blades is a relatively inexpensive way to extend the life of your window tint.
