Darth Vader is a seriously misunderstood character. From the original Star Wars series where he intoned the shocking words: “Luke, I am your father,” to the more recent reboots where Anakin morphs from a cute kid to a mini-adult full of murderous rage, Darth Vader is one of those characters that fascinates people to no end.
If you were Darth Vader, what kind of ride would you choose? A seriously cool one, no doubt, but with the sea of awesomeness that’s out there, what specifically are you looking for? We think Ani/Darth would cruise the streets in a $1.4M McLaren P1 in Volcano Orange. Here’s why.
While the McLaren also comes in a far-from-basic black, we think Volcano Orange offers the impact Darth would expect from his primary ride. The color is hot like his temper and would continually fan the flames of his rage by reminding him of the last scene of “Revenge of the Sith” where he was horribly burned. That little incident is what led to his intense whole-body armor and creepy, wheezy voice. The black panels on the side of this low-slung beauty make it look almost armored, and it is definitely built for speed.
A deep window tint is a requirement, as Lord Vader is unable to stand the touch of sunlight on his horribly burnt and disfigured skin. Hiding behind the anonymity of a BlackMax dark window tint would give him the illusion of when he was the young Anakin Skywalker, with nothing to worry about but falling in love with the beautiful Padme. Plus, you never know what he’s up to under that mask, so the darkened windows of the supercar will give him that added layer of mystery.
Darth Vader is used to going fast — from pod racers to his space speeders — so the McLaren P1 would need to deliver some serious horsepower. Fortunately, the 727hp twin-turbo V8 engine can reach over 215 miles per hour, which isn’t too shabby for a vehicle that is still tied to the ground and not riding the pockets of air like a Star Wars speedster would be.
While the McLaren doesn’t leave much room for Storm Troopers in the back, at least Lord Vader won’t be forced to cramp his style when he’s getting into and out of the groovy ride. Gull wing doors will make it easy for him to gently heave himself up and out of the vehicle and then collapse back in when he gets out of breath.
